Greetings, dear friends!

Last week was one for the books, filled with excitement and camaraderie as we welcomed back some familiar faces from across the globe. Our old friends from Germany and Australia joined us for an unforgettable hunting adventure that will be talked about for years to come.

The air was filled with anticipation as our German friends set out to pursue Springbucks, and what a hunt it was! With precision and skill, they managed to bring in an impressive count of 186. It was a sight to behold, and the smiles on their faces said it all.

Meanwhile, our Australian hunter was living out a dream that had been years in the making. With determination and focus, he successfully took down a trophy Kudu, a majestic creature that will surely be the pride of his collection. But he didn’t stop there; he also bagged a Warthog, Duiker, and Steenbok, each one a testament to his skill and perseverance.

And let’s not forget about Hendrik, who had an eventful week in South Africa. He accompanied guest hunters on an exhilarating journey, where they experienced the unique challenges and excitement of being near Africa’s most iconic wildlife, including Lions. The experience was one of awe and respect for these majestic predators, with the focus always on conservation and ethical practices. It was a week that deepened our appreciation for the natural world and the importance of preserving these incredible animals for future generations.

As if the hunting successes weren’t enough, we were also overjoyed to see how our newly renovated camp turned out. It’s a space that now feels more like home than ever, and we are beyond excited to share it with our beloved clients in the days to come.

Weather

The weather has been delightful, with cool mornings transitioning into warm afternoons. We’ve experienced minimum temperatures of 1 degree Celsius and highs of 29 degrees Celsius. The season is gradually shifting, with the sun rising earlier and setting later. However, the fields remain dry, and we eagerly await the summer rains, hoping for lush greenery to replace the sand and dusty skies.

PH Diaries: Hendrik Botha

Last week, I participated in a unique experience, guiding clients on a Lion hunt in South Africa. Initially, I approached the idea of captive-bred lion hunting with considerable apprehension and reservations. I am aware of the ethical concerns surrounding this practice and felt uncertain about taking part.

However, as the experience unfolded, it provided me with a deeper understanding of the complexities involved. The hunt took place on a vast 22,000-hectare farm, where careful management of lion population is a priority.
While the hunt was challenging and intense, we approached it with respect for the environment and the animals involved.

The nights at the camp were particularly memorable, filled with reflection and a profound sense of connection to the natural world. Sitting by the campfire, with the distant sounds of lions in the background, offered a unique perspective on the balance between conservation and the role of responsible hunting.

This experience reinforced the importance of engaging with these issues thoughtfully and with an open mind. While I understand and respect the concerns many have about captive-bred lion hunting, I believe that such experiences can offer valuable insights when approached with sensitivity and respect for wildlife conservation.

The “Other” Hendrik’s German Hunters

I also accompanied two hunters from Germany last week. Initially, they were discouraged due to delayed rifles that cost them two days of hunting. They were concerned about completing their hunting packages, but once we started, their spirits lifted immediately. The joy on their faces as they experienced the beautiful red dunes and wildlife was priceless. We enjoyed a wonderful hunt, completing their packages sooner than expected. It was heartwarming to bid them farewell with broad smiles on their faces.

Weekly Smiles

Last Thursday, Trudi and Bianca were on their way to decorate the renovated camp. After making a few stops in Gobabis, they were finally heading to the camp, but the truck wouldn’t start. They tried everything, struggling for about 10 minutes before calling Toyota to send someone to help. When the technician arrived, Trudi explained the problem, and he simply turned the key—and the truck started immediately. The technician gave them a puzzled look, and they burst into laughter. We continue to tease them about this funny incident!

Developments

We are thrilled to announce the completion of our tented camp! Last week, we dedicated long hours to initiating the interior design of the rooms and the entertainment area. Our goal was to create a cozy ambiance while maintaining a hunting theme. Trudi and Bianca added personal touches by painting patterns on the bedroom walls.

We eagerly anticipate welcoming hunters to our new lodge in the coming week and hope our clients will be as delighted as we are, sensing the care and consideration we’ve invested in the camp’s renovation.
