Last week was nothing short of remarkable at Hendrik and Trudi Safaris. We began with an energetic hunt in the South, where we successfully pursued a diverse array of game, including springboks, oryxes, kudus, warthogs, and ostriches. After the thrill of the hunt, Trudi, Hendrik, Bianca, and I embarked on a road trip to Mahangu, where we were captivated by the breathtaking beauty of the North. The landscape was simply awe-inspiring, a serene reminder of nature’s magnificence. We’re also excited to share some fantastic developments with you!
Weather
In Mahangu last week, temperatures soared to a scorching 35 degrees, and the river levels reflected the dry conditions. Despite the heat, it was heartening to see trees beginning to blossom and sprout new leaves, while birds filled the air with their melodious songs—a true testament to nature’s resilience. Meanwhile, in the South, the intense heat has taken its toll on the animals, who are noticeably thinner due to the ongoing drought. However, we remain hopeful that the summer rains will soon bring relief.
The Beauty of the North and the South
Namibia is a land of striking contrasts, each region possessing its own unique beauty. The South, with its stunning red dunes and expansive blue skies, offers an experience that is both harsh and captivating. The heat reflecting off the red sand creates a surreal atmosphere that must be felt to be fully appreciated. On the other hand, the North is a lush haven, blessed with more frequent rainfall and a vibrant, life-rich landscape. Here, one can encounter elephants, hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, and so much more. Namibia, rich in wildlife and diverse in scenery, truly is the heart of Africa.
Developments
We are thrilled to announce that last week we began an exciting new project—drilling for water on our property. The team started early in the morning, and with coffee, snacks, and chairs in hand, we eagerly watched the process unfold. By 4 o’clock in the afternoon, we struck a small pocket of water, and the excitement was palpable! The following day, the drilling continued, and we eventually found a more abundant water supply. This is fantastic news, as we plan to utilize this water for our lodge, marking a significant milestone in our development.
